By now, some of you already know, but
for those that don't, the baby we were being considered for was
placed with another family. After our meeting with the county
caseworker was canceled, we spent the next several days repeatedly
calling her. We just wanted any sort of update or finality with the
situation. However, we have yet to hear back from her in any form.
Our agency was actually never informed of the placement of the baby
with another family/agency. They were only told of the conclusion by
another county caseworker. Obviously, this proved to be a very
frustrating end. A quick Google search of the county caseworker's
name, as well as conversations with friends with connections to the
county have revealed that this caseworker is just extremely
unprofessional (to say nothing of our experience with her). It's
unfortunate that our first case had to go through her.
As a result, we are back on the list to
be called for pre-adoptive foster children. In the mean time, we've
received a few calls to provide respite care. Today, we're taking
in our first respite case. It will be a 4.5 month old boy and his 15
month old foster sister. Their foster parents will be going on their
honeymoon, so we will have them for about a week. This should be a
good experience and will hopefully put us on the radar of our agency
as competent parents. I, however, am a little nervous about watching
two children on my own during the daytime while Danielle is at work.
Do babies like to watch Friday Night Lights? Because that's probably
going to be what happens.
As we've been getting ready to become
parents, I've been really worried about the most important aspects of being a
dad. Namely, how do I make sure my kids have their priorities
straight when it comes to sports allegiances (1. Pirates. 2.
Penguins. 3. Who cares, it's not the Pirates or Penguins? 4. See 1
and 2) and how do I introduce them to good music? Thankfully, my
brother recently shared this link with me. So, basically, I'm
completely ready to be a dad now. Everything is coming together perfectly.
Hopefully we'll have some more updates for you over the next week as we foster our first children. We're really looking forward to growing from the experience, regardless of how short of a stay the kids will have with us.
